Pekalongan Batik Museum Sees Surge in Visitors During 2025 Holiday Season

PEKALONGAN – The Pekalongan Batik Museum recorded a significant increase in tourist visits during the 2025 Christmas and New Year (Nataru) holiday period, welcoming approximately 1,080 visitors. This figure marks a notable rise compared to the same period in 2024, which saw only 840 visits.

Head of the Pekalongan Batik Museum, Nurhayati Sinaga, stated that the increase reflects growing public enthusiasm for educational tourism, particularly museums, as an alternative holiday destination.

“Compared to last year, visitor numbers during the 2025 year-end holiday showed a strong improvement. On average, we received up to 200 visitors per day,” she explained.

Visitors from Various Cities

Nurhayati revealed that most visitors came from outside Pekalongan, including Jakarta, Semarang, Bekasi, and several other regions. The majority of guests were families and young people who used the year-end holiday as an opportunity to travel while learning about history and cultural heritage.

This trend highlights the increasing appeal of museums as meaningful travel destinations that combine recreation with education.

Inclusive Art Exhibition Becomes Main Attraction

During the Christmas and year-end holiday period, the museum also hosted a special exhibition featuring artworks by persons with disabilities, held since December 9, 2025, at Exhibition Room 1. The exhibition became a unique attraction and an important educational platform for visitors.

“Through this disability art exhibition, we want to convey the message that limitations are not barriers. Just like a piece of fabric that may not be perfect, its value and uniqueness can still be showcased and developed,” Nurhayati emphasized.

The exhibition aims to build confidence among people with disabilities and raise public awareness about the importance of inclusivity in all aspects of life, including cultural spaces and museums.

Strengthening the Role of Museums

With the continuous growth in visitor numbers, the Pekalongan Batik Museum hopes public interest in museums as educational tourism destinations will keep increasing. The museum also seeks to strengthen its role as a space for learning, reflection, and appreciation of diversity.

The positive trend during the 2025 holiday season signals strong potential for museums to become key attractions in cultural tourism, supporting community engagement and preserving Indonesia’s rich heritage.

Through innovative programs and inclusive initiatives, the Pekalongan Batik Museum continues to position itself as a vibrant cultural hub for visitors from across the country. Makin Tahu Indonesia.**
